Runaways worked as prostitutes, employer arrested

Date Posted: 1998-03-20

Two girls who have been missing since December were found last month after they were spotted near the cabaret district in Miyako Island.

Koshido Takahashi, 59, was arrested after an investigation discovered the girls had been hired by him to work as prostitutes in his local cabaret. The girls, sisters aged 14 and 17, ran away from home in December and a massive effort was organized to locate them. Teachers and family members scoured the island and the girls were finally spotted after one of the sisters propositioned a teacher involved in the search. The man called police who arrived on scene and arrested the sisters for prostitution.

Takahashi apparently hired the girls from February 6 to16. They worked as prostitutes and worked inside the establishment, drinking with customers well past midnight.
