Victimís father attacks, hits boyís killer in court

Date Posted: 2003-03-22

The father of a 19-year-old boy who was beaten to death last November in Okinawa City lost his temper and attacked one of his sonís accused killers during the trial in the Okinawa Branch of Naha District Court. Four youth are charged in the case.

The father reportedly became upset when the accused described how he and his schoolmate had beaten the victim for several hours until he finally died. During the questioning, prosecutors asked whether it was true that the accused had tried to force the victim to borrow money from a bank or consumer loan company so they could buy a car. The accused admitted that the statement was true, and said that when the victim refused, he and his accomplice attacked him.

The victimís father, who was listening to the proceedings, at that point attacked and hit the accused, who then said that ďThatís all right, beat me more. I deserve it.Ē

Earlier, the Naha Family Court sentenced a 15-year-old girl and 17-year-old boy who also took part in the beating to a correctional facility for juveniles. The trial of the two other high school boys continues.
