Marine robbed near Chatan's seawall

Date Posted: 1998-03-14

A young Marine from Camp Hansen was robbed at gunpoint Sunday night by an English-speaking man, possibly another American. The incident occurred near Araha Park outside Camp Foster in Kitamae, Chatan Town.

The Marine, 20, had been at the seawall late into the evening, admiring the area and the view. Near midnight, he was approached by a man, described as possibly an American, about 5'8" tall, wearing blue jeans and a black jacket.

The assailant threatened the man with a gun and demanded he turn over his money. The victim was unable to get a good look at the man because of the lack of light and due to the fact the man had a hat pulled low over his face. After handing over a wallet with 3,000 and $60, the victim ran to the nearest police kiosk to report the crime. Chatan police are searching for the man fitting the description.
