Air Force Sergeant Brings Jujitsu To Torii GymDate Posted: 1998-03-14 "People have had the opportunity to see how the various fighting arts stack up against each other in a realistic combative contest," stated Veros, who is a 6th degree black belt in Jujitsu, 2nd degree black belt in Judo and instructor rank in the Filipino stick & knife fighting art (Kali). "Studying the art of Jujitsu provides you with the tools to use in all four ranges of a fight & also provides you with a sense of inner peace and accomplishment," he added and then explained the four ranges. "First is Distance (Where kicks & punches are your primary tool against someone reaching to attack you). Intermediate (Where kicks, punches, knees, elbows, sweeps and some locks are employed when going toe to toe with an attacker). Standing Grappling (Where locks, sweeps & chokes are dominant while still utilizing throws, knees, & elbows) and finally Ground Fighting (Where you and your opponents are grappling on the ground using chokes, armbars, knee & ankle locks in submission holds)." Sensei Veros will be teaching Jujitsu at Torii Station's Gym Monday & Wednesdays from 6:30-8pm. These classes are open to active duty military personnel only, over the age of 18 years for a monthly fee of $40.00. Grapplers & wrestlers are welcome to attend. Call Torii Fitness Center at 644-4144 / 4334 for more information. |
