Ex-military member arrested for possessionDate Posted: 1998-02-28 Joseph B. Helington, 23, a former Marine, arrived at Kadena Air Base on a flight from Guam originating in Hawaii. After disembarking from the plane, Okinawan custom officials discovered marijuana is Helington's shoes. Okinawan police were called to the scene and after a brief search, officials discovered 0.80 ounces of the illegal substance. He also had paraphernalia, including a pipe, rolling paper, and one hemp seed hidden in his pockets. When questioned, Helington claimed the marijuana was for his own use. |
