11th Annual Okinawa International Orchid ShowBy: Victoria Moore Date Posted: 1998-02-07 Lectures given by renown experts from throughout Japan and abroad feature a lively repartee of questions and opinions. This information exchange provides a perfect forum to disseminate technical expertise. Exhibitors this year have come from Okinawa perfecture, 25 other Japanese prefectures, and Southeast Asia, the Philippines, Brunei and Hong Kong. The exhibits have been of unprecedented quantity and quality. The climate in Okinawa is ideally suited to the cultivation of orchids; the prefecture is currently in the process of becoming the main center of orchids' production in Japan. Mr. Susumu Nakayama, Chairman of Okinawa International Orchid Show Committee, believes that Okinawa will become a focal point for the generation of information on orchid production both inside and outside Japan. He also hopes that orchids will serve as the medium where by Okinawans make an important contribution to international society, tourism within the prefecture, diffusion of horticulture, and promotion of greenery in the urban environment. The Okinawa International Orchid Show Committee welcomes the public to this prestigious event. |
