Date Posted: 2001-12-27

Every New Year’s Day, many Okinawans flock to high points and other scenic spots around the island to watch the first sunrise of the new year. This year the sun is expected to rise at 7:17 a.m., and cloudy weather is likely, so dress warmly. Many of the most popular spots for watching the sunrise are listed with the picture accompanying this article.

If you want to get a good view and avoid traffic, your best bet is to leave early, because swarms of people will be rushing to get the best seats for sunrise-viewing. Need to figure out how to get to these prime spots? No problem! We are selling maps of Okinawa at our office in Mihama behind Boston Club and Tecmopia, so drop by today.
