Student concert to aid Afghan children

Date Posted: 2001-12-27

Forty students from Yokatsu High School in Katsuren Town are holding a “Peaceful New Year’s Concert” on Dec. 31 at the town’s Hamahiga Hotel. Profits from the event will go towards helping children in Afghanistan. The students came up with the idea for the benefit concert after studying about Medecins Sans Frontieres (Doctors Without Borders) in class. Deeply moved by the nongovernmental organization’s relief work, the youngsters decided to do something to provide aid for Afghan children, who are suffering from the effects of war and freezing weather. The Yokatsu students are currently busy making arts and crafts, postcards, scarves and various other items for sale at the concert, which will be held on New Year’s Eve from 11:00 p.m. to 1:00 a.m.
