Okinawa budget down 9.2 percent from 2001

The Ministry of Finance unofficially released figures included in the fiscal year 2002 budget to the Cabinet Office’s Okinawa section on Thursday. The prefecture was allocated ¥317 billion, despite its request for ¥353.8 billion, amounting to a 9.2 decrease over last year’s figures. New projects funded in next year's budget include ¥30 million for a personnel training program in preparation for the establishment of the Special Financial District in Nago City; ¥2.8 billion for construction of the National Special School of Technology; ¥330 million for consolidation of World Heritage sites in Okinawa; and ¥83 million for a feasibility study for a planned graduate school.
