Police insensitive towards rape victim

Information was released on Friday indicating that members of the Okinawa Police Department had acted without due care towards the victim of a rape that took place in November. According to the report, the victim was initially interviewed by a policeman who had failed to provide her with his name or rank. Then, while interviewing the woman about the details of her case, a policeman in a position of authority had allegedly invited her to the departmentís year-end party. Moreover, while showing the victim pictures of the suspects, the same officer had warned the victim not to file a complaint because, according to him, at least three other people in the world bear a resemblance to every individual. On another day, the victim reportedly was told to be 100 percent certain before pressing forward with the arrest of the suspects. The signals sent by the police reportedly led to confusion on the womanís part. Okinawa Police Vice-General Shoichi Shinzato stated that the officers in question had been dealt with.
