JATA to promote Okinawan tourism

Date Posted: 2001-12-20

Members of the Japan Association of Travel Agents representing Ishikawa, Toyama and Fukui prefectures visited the assistant director of the Prefectural Bureau of Tourism and Resorts on Dec. 12, promising to promote more trips to Okinawa. In order to boost the island's flagging tourism, which has been declining since the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks in the United States, the travel association agreed to step up efforts to attract visitors from their prefectures to Okinawa. In order to implement the agreement, Ishikawa Prefecture will request a supplementary budget of 7.4 million to subsidize increased public relations expenses associated with the campaign.
