Foundation threatens deadbeat borrowers with legal action
Date Posted: 2001-12-20
The Okinawa International Exchange and Human Resources Development Foundation has issued a call for overdue payments on student loans. The number of defaults has reached 474, with over ¥83 million in arrears. The rate of paid loans stands at 76 percent of the total. The foundation warns that if demands for payment are not met, appropriate legal action will be pursued against the defaulters. As of March 2001, 15 non-payers, most of whom were employed and averaged 32 years of age, had actually been taken to court.
