Public demands better crime victim treatment

Date Posted: 2001-12-20

The Prefectural Police Department on Thursday disclosed the results of a questionnaire conducted for the purpose of helping the police lend more support to the victims of crimes. The survey revealed that 86.9 percent of respondents felt that someone other than the police should counsel crime victims. A majority of those polled demanded an accounting of procedures followed after a crime is reported, as well as police protection from acts of revenge committed by a criminal and privacy from the media. A total of 23.8 percent said that public order has deteriorated, while only 10.9 percent answered that it was adequate or better than before.
