Health center offers free AIDS testing

Date Posted: 2001-12-20

In support of World AIDS Day, the Koza Health Center of Okinawa City conducted a campaign in Chatan on Nov. 30 to promote the center's services, including AIDS testing that can be done anonymously and free of charge. According to the center, the amount of counseling it has been providing has decreased despite the fact that incidences of infection with the virus have been on the increase in Japan. The center states that people in Okinawa visit the center only after symptoms of the disease have begun to manifest themselves. Staff from the U.S. Naval Hospital at Camp Lester and others participated in the efforts to boost public awareness about AIDS by handing out flyers and tissues to the public.
