False rumors fly on Destiny’s Child breakup

Date Posted: 2001-12-13

Despite rumors that acclaimed R&B group Destiny’s Child is splitting up, the stories are completely false. The group recently did an interview with E Entertainment about the group’s future plans. Beyonce, a member of the award-winning group, stated that after their European tour, the group would take a break to pursue solo projects, but she never mentioned a breakup. Suddenly, rumors were flying that Destiny’s Child was parting ways.

The group has been touring nonstop since first hitting the public eye and feels it is time to sit back and take it easy while pursuing separate projects. Beyonce is currently shooting a spot for the next Austin Powers movie. Kelly is making music and writing lyrics. E Entertainment was correct in that the group was taking a break, but they did not tell the whole story. If the group were breaking up, information would have been posted on their Web site and on the front pages of many entertainment magazines around the world. “We’ve been so blessed to be as successful as we are at such a young age,” says the group. “We’ve worked hard and enjoy every minute of it. We are not even thinking about stopping now. We just want to take the time to work on some projects that reflect our individual tastes. We are looking forward to starting our world tour next spring and cannot wait to see our international fans, again.”

The group will be performing in Australia and Japan in May before heading off on their European tour. After this, the group intends to take it easy for a while. All in all, the information on the group’s homepage is official. An entertainment article is not official. The band is not breaking up and will be performing on Okinawa on Tuesday, May 7, at the Mihama Athletic Field. Tickets for the event are going on sale Saturday, Dec. 22.
