Police arrest suspect in 2.5 mn sanshin heist

Naha police on Monday arrested a 41-year-old nursery employee on charges of trespassing and theft. The man is suspected of having stolen a number of sanshin (a three-stringed Okinawan musical instrument) and accessories from a manufacturing facility in Naha and selling them at a flea market. According to the police investigation, the suspect broke into the premises on the evening of Nov. 20 and allegedly stole instruments valued at 2.5 million, after which he reportedly sold them for 20-25,000 at flea markets in Hamby Town, Chatan and elsewhere.
