Declining prices blamed for Illegal seaweed dumping

A large amount of mozuku seaweed was found dumped in an Okinawa City field, the landowner reported to the city on Nov 27. Suspecting that the decline of seaweed prices was behind the incident, city officials, shocked by the waste of so much mozuku, are investigating the case in cooperation with the police. In addition to 15 plastic bags containing 20 kg. of seaweed, a refrigerator and some construction waste were also found abandoned at the site. The landlord said that the field has been the scene of illegal dumping for the last few years and suspects it is being done by people involved in business.
