Rinken Band releases new album

Date Posted: 2001-11-21

Rinken Band, Okinawa’s best-known group of traditional-influenced musicians and dance performers, released their latest album “Orinasuhibi” on November 21. The leading idea of Orinasuhibi is that the biggest difference between Okinawa and Japan is the concept of time. On Okinawa, the past, present, and future are merged together and people are in the center. Okinawans don’t look at time as an economic resource. Orinasuhibi is a state of mind reflecting respect to the past, generosity towards the present, and hope for the future.

Comprised of eight members, Rinken Band was formed in 1977 and has performed around the world in countries such as Hong Kong, the Philippines, China, India, Peru, Bolivia, Columbia, Brazil, South Africa, Madagascar, England, and the United States. The group has released over 21 albums and side projects and has been accepted by many generations, as their music is the kind that people of all ages are able to listen and enjoy.

Rinken Band has been well received on its tours around the world. Their music has always had a positive response from audiences because it has the ability to affect people’s mind deeply, and also because it is based on daily life and the lyrics are honest.

The latest release has twelve tracks of traditional Okinawan music and will be on sale for ¥2,800 at all major record shops on island.
