Okinawa tourism campaign seeks to boost image

Date Posted: 2001-11-21

An emergency campaign to promote the sagging Okinawa tourism got on way on Saturday in Tokyo. The first event of the campaign was held in front of Shinjuku Sation, the busiest railway station in the nation. The event included Eisa dance show, taiko performance, Shishi lion dance and other performing arts that were performed on stage in front of the station. Several Miss Okinawans worked as announcers, and various Okinawa musicians also joined in. A drawing for a 30,000 gift certificate capped the event.

The campaign is scheduled to move on to other major cities throughout the nation, including as Osaka, Fukuoka, Sapporo and Nagoya. The national government, Okinawa Prefectural Office and Okinawa Convention Bureau sponsor the campaign.
