Hotel association hopes to attract locals

Date Posted: 2001-11-21

The Okinawa Hotel and Inn Association handed out five hundred discount tickets worth ¥2,000 each to the public, Friday, at Naha Port Terminal. The event was conducted as a part of a campaign to support association members who are facing a crisis as the number of visitors has fallen sharply in the aftermath of the terrorist attack in New York. The association hopes to attract more local people to stay in the hotels in Okinawa.

About one hundred people had lined up before association officials started giving away the tickets at 10 a.m. All tickets were gone by 1 p.m. The association is requesting a subsidy from the prefecture, eyeing at a goal of issuing as many as 10,000 tickets. The association has also come up with the slogan “Every citizen of the prefecture should stay in a hotel one night per month.”
