Naha – Ie Island sea link reopened

Date Posted: 2002-04-09

Two years ago a fast-speed hydrofoil boat “Marlin” that linked Naha to Motobu and Ie Island was forced out of business. Now another fast passenger ferry “Asahi 1” is giving the route a second try. The boat made its first trip on Saturday and will operate two round trip runs a day., and increase the runs to three a day during July and August. Some 40 invited guests were on board on the first run. At Ie-Island, Ie Village Mayor Seitoku Shimabukuro expressed his satisfaction that the route has been reopened. “To have this connection is very important to us as it makes us to feel much less isolated from the rest of the world,” Shimabukuro stated.

An one-say ticket on Asahi 1 will cost ¥3,400 for adults and ¥1,700 for children under 12. Call 868-1174 for more information.
