Naha Military Port relocation process started

Date Posted: 2001-11-15

Okinawa Governor Keiichi Inamine, Naha City Mayor Takeshi Onaga and Urasoe City Mayor Mitsuo Gima signed a note, Thursday, at the Prefectural Office. The note will be a fundamental agreement regarding the establishment of an association that will manage the new Naha Military Port that will be built on a reclaimed land in Urasoe City off Camp Kinser. The association will be established on next April.

According to the agreement, the association will control the new port. Some areas in Urasoe City near the planned site of the new naval port were granted for Urasoe City to use for their own purpose. Governor Inamine stated that the port would be arranged as an international hub that will have a positive effect on the economy and job situation in Okinawa. As these agreements are now in effect, the relocation process of the Naha Military Port has officially started.
