Date Posted: 2001-11-08

Numbered tickets for a lecture by the former Soviet Union President Michael Gorbachev, scheduled for Nov. 14 in Naha City were handed out on Thursday at five locations. A surprisingly large number of citizens queued up for the tickets from early morning, and a total of one thousand tickets were completely gone within an hour. The city invited Gorbachev as a keynote speaker for its eightieth anniversary celebrations.

At Shuri, people started lining up from 6:30 a.m. in the morning, two and a half hours prior to the time that tickets were given. Officials started handing out the tickets at 8:30 a.m., a half hour before the scheduled time. A man standing in the line said that it is interesting to know what Gorbachev thinks about the current world situation.
