School apologizes for teachersí actions

Date Posted: 2001-11-08

A 27-year-old male teacher hit a first year male student of a junior high school in Nakijin Village on the back of the head on Oct. 12. The blow left the student with an injury that took one week to heal completely, local papers reported Friday.

According to the school, a male teacher lost his temper and hit the student as the student constantly ignored the teacherís orders and disturbed the class.

In the same school, another incident took place on Oct. 9 when a 23-year-old new teacher did not allow the whole second year class to eat their school lunch. The act was supposedly to punish the class as none of the students confessed to shutting down an electric breaker at the school. The school has reportedly admitted that the two incidents happened, and made an apology to the students and their parents.
