There’s relief in that bee sting

Date Posted: 2001-11-08

A bee sting can be fatal to some people, but it can also be used as a cure, especially for inflammation diseases such as rheumatism, arthritis or neuralgia.

“Flipper” Uehara used to be a super featherweight professional boxer who at his peak fought Ghanaian World Featherweight Champion Ok Poison Accra in Africa in front of a crowd of 100,000. However he has been bedridden for years, suffering from arthritis and eventually losing his ability to move his arms and legs. Eventually he heard from his relatives about the bee sting remedy given at Inamine Acupuncture & Moxibustion, Clinic “Shinkyu Goya” located in Hamby, Chatan Town, and started going there looking for the slightest bit of hope.

“The pain was so bad that my whole body was twisting, became stiff after a spasm and I almost fell off the bed. I had hard time even opening doors. Anyway, I was ready to try just about anything to improve my condition just a little. But after receiving the treatment only once, my body suddenly eased up. I was first in doubt but even my fingers started moving as I continued the treatment for a couple of times more. Now I go to the clinic twice a week and the condition is getting better and better.” Uehara said as he was jumping to show off how his condition has improved.

There is evidence that people actually utilized apitherapy two to three thousand years ago in China, using secretion and other substances from bees. Now these secretions are used worldwide in honey, wax, propolis and royal jelly but the countries where you can receive bee venom treatment using honeybees are limited to America, Germany, China, Korea, Romania, Bulgaria, Russia and Japan.

According to the American Apitherapy Society, the venom of bees consists of approximately forty elements. For example, the main element in the venom has anti-inflammation, anti-germ, and antipyretic effects. Especially the anti-inflammation effect is expected to be a hundred times stronger than in regular medicine. Also the venom strengthens the immunity, so this remedy is considered effective to ailments associated with chronic pains.

The treatment is simple. Take a bee needle out from a bee and sting the skin with it. The location and number of stings and the duration of the treatment depend on the disease and patient’s condition. For example, for a chronic disease such as arthritis is treated with four or five stings at a time, a few times per week for one to three months. The side effects of this remedy are usually limited to swelling or itching. However, as some people are allergic to bee stings to the extent that they can be fatal, every patient is subject to take a test for adaptability.

Yasuhide Inamine, the director of the clinic, used to specialize in oriental medicine such as Edger Cayce therapy, chiropractics, acupuncture and moxibustion, while offering the bee treatment only to those who requested for it. However, he recently started giving the bee sting remedy as a general treatment, as well as the conventional regular treatment using acupuncture and moxibustion.
