Okinawa Industrial Fair

Date Posted: 2001-10-25

Are you looking for an opportunity to explore everything that Okinawa produces, including items that are developed just recently or those that have been popular traditionally? If so, The Okinawa Industrial Fair is for you. This festival showcases almost everything that is served or sold on Okinawa. It also offers a good overview of various industrial and commercial fields in the prefecture. Organizers say that the aim of the fair is to encourage further development of Okinawan products and local industry.

The Fair will take place over this weekend in the Okinawa Prefectural Martial Arts Hall and in th surrounding Onoyama Park. The arena of the Martial Arts Hall will house many exhibitions of newly developed products in tourism, information technology, personal training, agriculture, fisheries, new merchandize, fine products, great inventions and many others. On the second floor of the building there will be more exhibitions highlighting traditional Okinawan arts and crafts.

Outside, even more exhibitions are set up featuring works from vocational training schools, the Naha urban monorail, and even hints for energy conservation. Several shops sell fine local products and nearly all Okinawan awamori distillers and food processors serve free samples to visitors.

A large bazaar selling various products and plants is set up on the west side of the park. Live performances throughout the weekend will entertain visitors of all ages, as do a beer garden, fish market and booths selling local produce from towns and villages of the prefecture.

This year, the Naha Military Port is closed for parking space for security reasons. Thus there is no parking space at this festival. Instead of coming by your car, take a bus or team up with a few friends and share a taxi. There is also a shuttle bus connecting the festival site with Naha bus terminal and the Palette Kumoji that will run from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.

Date: Oct. 26 - 28 10:00am - 8:00pm

Place: Onoyama Park & Prefectural Martial Art Hall
