Local companies are invited to participate for the Business Only One Award that is annually awarded to one manufacturing and one service sector company by the Okinawa Managers’ Association. In evaluating participating companies, the size or sales volume does not matter. Unique business style, idea, leadership and customer service are among features used in the evaluation. The aim is to develop the field of industry and contribute to the development of Okinawan business in general and, at the same time, to stimulate and encourage innovative business thinking among companies.

Two companies that won last year’s awards were “Aoi Umi (Blue Ocean in Japanese, a salt manufacturing company)” in manufacturing, and “Anshin (a delivery company)” in service business category. Aoi Umi was evaluated highly because of its novelty manufacturing method and successful marketing to mainland Japan. Anshin won high marks for its uniquely effective delivery system.

Those who want to apply for this year’s awards, can download the application form from the Okinawa Prefecture Government homepage at http://www.pref.okinawa.jp/index-j.html). After filling out the form, send it by fax to 098-859-6153. For further information, call Okinawa Managers’ Association at 098-859-6151. The deadline is Oct. 31, 2001.
