In the play, children of Katsuren, also called Kimutaka in traditional Okinawan language, sneak to the Katsuren castle ruins at midnight. They want to see if the rumored annual phantom festival really takes place or not. There, a great master appears with a (add; bolt of) lightning and hands a roll of paper to the children. On the paper is recorded the truth about the war of Lord Amawari. As the story goes back to the 15th century, the children will get close to the real character of Lord Amawari, as a heroic but betrayed king who was the all time favorite of the people of Katsuren.
