Parcel checking tightened at Naha Post Office

The Ministry of General Affairs announced that they have enacted anti-terror measures regarding anthrax and other possible contamination in the postal service, Monday, Oct. 15. Responding to the announcement, personnel dealing with international mail, at Naha Central Post Office started sorting the mail with masks and gloves on.

There are eight central post offices in Japan that distribute inbound international mail to branch offices. The Naha office is one of them, and officials say that they receive about five to eight hundred letters and parcels per day on average. They add that the inspection of parcels suspected of containing prohibited items is tightened, and suspicious parcels are fully checked with an X-ray tester.
