Dear Houston Super group

Dear Houston Super group,

What ever happened to Texas pride and patriotism? What ever happened to supporting the people who help you to keep the freedom to become a part of the “The American Dream?” Why did you, Destiny’s Child, cancel your upcoming concert to the military bases on Okinawa, Japan? Over 50,000 American service members and their families live on Okinawa helping to protect the region and freedom that exist.

The concert was not FREE. Thousands of men, women and children paid $35 per ticket to see this outstanding group. Okinawa is not filled with single military men living in Gomer Pyle style barracks. It has a section of the island with single and married men and women and their children living on and off base.

What happened to the days when Bob Hope would bring the most popular bands, actors and other admired entertainers to the bases where our service members are stationed, all for FREE? He was at Desert Storm, Nam, Korea and WW II. I guess those days are over, as Mr. Hope gets older.

Looking at the official homepage for Destiny’s Child, I notice no concerts dates were mentioned for October. I watched the group on the well-liked Japanese TV show, Smap Smap, tonight (Oct. 15) and all members were fine and accounted for.

Beware UK, in November, you may be next! As everyone in the States goes shopping at Wal-Mart, Sac’s or wherever as everyone does, what the US President and New York Mayor ask by attending plays, baseball games and concerts, please think of the 20,000 plus family members living on a tiny island in the Pacific. Some of our spouses might be deployed to the Mid East. However, many of us Americans are still here. Our children (your other fans) may be wondering when mom or dad will return, but would be happy to have a chance to see one of their favorite groups.

We didn’t demand for Destiny’s Child to come to Okinawa. But when we were told they would come, we were excited to say the least. We paid the money for the ticket. Now I’m only asking for Destiny’s Child to hold up to their promise. We might not be stationed here 3, 5 or 10 months from now so we can’t wait for a “rescheduling.” If you are worried about security or need a ride here, just ask. If you happen to run into Mr. Hope please tell him we miss him.
