Date Posted: 2001-10-13

Okinawa City Police took four juvenile U.S. dependents of service members into custody, Tuesday, on suspicion of shooting a 26-year-old used car salesman on the cheek with a plastic pellet from an air gun. The incident occurred near Ikento intersection in Misato. The man was not injured.

According to the Okinawa City Police, the suspects drove by the car lot and shot the man through their car window as he was outside washing one of his cars. As soon as the man was hit, he reported the vehicle license number to the police. The suspects were apprehended at KAB Gate 2 by the military police 45 minutes later, and handed over to the Okinawa Police.

The four juveniles are all 17 or 18 years old. A 17-year-old has reportedly admitted being the shooter.

The man said he was shot from a very short distance and the juveniles drove off laughing. He said that such behavior couldn’t be forgiven, especially during this tense time.
