Veteran politician diesDate Posted: 2001-10-13 Senaga was first elected a member of the Legislative Council of the Ryukyu Government in 1952 when Okinawa was under American military occupation. He gained notoriety when he refused to take an oath in front of the U.S. Military High Commission. The U.S. Forces defined the People’s Party that Senaga had established as communist, and suppressed him and his party. Senaga refused to surrender to the suppression, and kept on protesting to realize democracy and return of Okinawa to the Japanese sovereignty. Senaga is considered to be one of the key persons who affected Okinawa to become again a prefecture of Japan in 1972. |
