Toyota cancels planned conference in Okianwa

Date Posted: 2001-10-13

Toyota Motors Corp. General Manager of Overseas Marketing, Kazuo Kimura visited the Okinawa Prefectural office on Wednesday, Oct. 3, and told Vice Governor Hirotaka Makino that his company had decided to cancel the Toyota World Conference scheduled for late October in Okinawa.

Kimura explained that his company had decided that it should abstain from organizing such a big event in the middle of the mourning time for the terror attack in New York.

Toyota had planned a tour of about 700 people to Okinawa including an event at Bankoku Shinryokan after the main event in Tokyo. The manager assured that he would strongly promote Okinawa in the next possible opportunity, as he had fully researched Okinawa’s conference and tourism facilities, a task that had taken a whole year.
