Farmer’s field rises four meters overnight

Date Posted: 2001-10-13

A parcel of land used for farming in Urasoe City rose about four meters between Wednesday evening and Thursday morning. The area is about twelve by twenty meters, or 330 square meters in size.

The reason for the phenomenon is under investigation, although the experts speculate that the pressure of the ground water affected by the continuous and excessive amount of rain in September pushed up the land.

A 67-year-old landowner who has been farming the plot for twenty years said he had plowed the land for seeding but the land would be useless for farming now.
