Customer fails to pay fare, threatens driver with ax

Date Posted: 2001-10-08

Yonabaru Police arrested a 46-year-old carpenter Saturday on charges of robbery. The suspect was questioned for not paying a taxi fare and threatening a 66-year-old driver with an ax. The suspect admits that he did not pay the fare but denies a part of the charges claiming that he did not threaten the driver.

According to the investigation, the suspect did not have cash with him and asked to pay later but the driver refused his request. He then allegedly went into his home and returned with an ax in his hand threatening to kill the driver. However in the ensuing fight the driver took the ax away, and the suspect allegedly hit the driver on his stomach. He also failed to pay the fee of 1,650.
