Finding job hard for disabled in bad economy

Date Posted: 2001-10-08

Okinawa Labor Bureau and other affiliated organizations held a job fair for disabled persons on Wednesday, Sep. 26, at Okinawa Convention Center. About 160 people came to apply for the 47 positions offered by 35 firms participating in the fair.

Organizers of the fair concede that it has been hard for the disabled to find jobs because of the continuing sluggish economy. In Okinawa, 5,315 people are registered as disabled, of whom 2,554 are working and 2,041 are looking for jobs.
