Kokusai Street movie theaters to move into new complex

Three movie theaters currently operating on Kokusai Street area in Naha City, will close and reopen in a new movie complex in October 2002 at Naha New Town District near Ameku, according to Hiromitsu Miyagi, the president of Kokuba-gumi Corporation. Kokuba-gumi is the owner of the three theaters. According to published plans, the complex will have nine screens with a capacity of around 1,900 seats.

One of the moving theaters, Cine Alte will close this week, and the other two, Kokuei-kan and Grand Orion will stay open until the end of the next summer.

Movie theaters around Kokusai Street in Naha have seen the number of viewers to drop in recent years due to a shortage of parking space. Combined sales of the three movie theaters are now hovering around 1.5 billion a year, whereas it was 2 billion at their peak.
