Is “Bushido” in Japan Dead

Date Posted: 2001-10-01

In the light of recent events, I feel that I need to express a thought.

I have several Okinawan friends and in discussing the events that happened in NY... I've become skeptical. My friends say that if Japan is called upon to "fight" etc... a Japanese poll shows most won't! What happened to the fierce fighters that would give their life for their beliefs? I can't believe that "Bushido" is dead.

This isn't an Okinawan problem but a Japanese problem. If this had happened in Tokyo, would the sentiment be the same? The Japanese people that I know are some of the best people in the world and dedicated to their country.

To Japan I say...stand up!... stand ready! and remember you have a strong friend in America! "Bushido" is as strong today as it has ever been! And in the days, weeks and years to come... let us stand together as brothers do against a common enemy. We have a bond that is build upon trust and friendship. I for one can tell you that I will never betray you!

God Bless Everyone!

Jay
