Opponents, construction crew clash at Hedo waste siteDate Posted: 2001-10-01 About 120 people including workers from the village office, construction workers, and representatives from companies promoting the plan gathered at the site, and started cutting down the trees and bushes after breaking through the human barrier of about sixty opposing residents. Four persons were reportedly hurt during the melee. Representatives of the opposing residents say that they are considering taking the case to the court and pressing for criminal charges. This issue has been in the court since the residents of Hedo requested Naha District Court to halt the construction. The next trial is scheduled for Tuesday. The residents have posted observers at the site since June 20. |
