Washita Shops log record sales, plan more

Date Posted: 2001-10-01

Okinawa Products Associated Corporation that operates so called Washita Shops around the nation reported Thursday that the total sales of their seven shops during a period from April through August reached ¥940 million, an increase of 18 percent compared to the previous year. The corporation and the shops are owned and operated by Okinawa Prefecture and they sell products from Okinawa aiming to boost the prefecture’s image and tourism.

Officials of the corporation concluded that the increase is due to the popularity of the NHK morning drama “Churasan”. They then stated that they would want to create more new products, and organize more promotional events focusing on Okinawan products such as Goya and Awamori.
