Prefecture honors two for helping tourism

Okinawa Governor Keiichi Inamine awarded a letter of appreciation to actress Tomi Taira and NHK Chairman Katsuji Ebisawa, Friday, at the Prefecture Office, on their contribution in promoting of Okinawan tourism. Taira is one of the main characters in the NHK morning drama “Churasan” featuring an Okinawan family.

Inamine told the award recipients that the drama has been very well received throughout the nation enforcing Okinawa’s reputation as the place with people with warm hearts. He also said that the drama itself has given a good boost to sales of Okinawan goods, most notably including the “Goya-man.”

Taira replied that Okinawa has a great entertainment tradition, and she feels honored to be an actress if that helps bring more people to Okinawa by enhancing the bright image of the island.
