Okinawa Joins in Relief Effort!

Date Posted: 2001-09-21

Help with relief effort!

In light of the recent terrorist attacks on America that occurred on Tuesday, Sep. 11, America has become united in many ways, with people across the country and around the world eager to help in the rescue and rebuilding efforts. On the opposite side of the world, in Okinawa, we still feel the shockwaves of the recent terror that occurred in America, but for many of us, we feel unable to help out due to the great distance between Japan and America. However, there are many ways to help the relief effort.

Wyatt Payne, owner of the Sam's restaurant chain in Okinawa, has recently begun collecting donations at each of his restaurants to help individuals and the families of individuals who were injured or killed in these ferocious attacks against humanity. An American family, the Payne’s are very sorry for what happened and want to help raise funds to help out in the cause. They begun collecting funds in each of their seven restaurants on Okinawa on Thursday, Sep. 13, and say they will continue taking donations for a month. All money collected will then be brought to the American Consulate General on Okinawa to help injured families in New York and Washington D.C. There are seven Sam's restaurants on Okinawa where you can donate. Sam's by the Sea is located in Awase and Naha, Sam's Maui is located in Kumoji and on Kokusai Street in Naha, Sam's Anchor Inn is located in Ginowan and on Kokusai street, and Sam's Cafe is located right outside Camp Foster's Legion Gate. For more information, call 098-933-0707.
