Dog owner ordered to muzzle pet of face court

Date Posted: 2001-09-15

The Koza Health Center gave an order to a 49-year-old woman living in Kadena Town, Thursday, to keep her dog tied, improve of its living area and put a muzzle on it. She is suspected of violating the Prefectural ordinance on animal welfare. Prefectural officials say that should the woman not follow the order, they would consider bringing the case to the court. This marks the first time such an order has been given under the Prefectural regulations.

According to an investigation by the officials, the woman kept her 5-year-old female dog untied without registration and vaccination for rabies. Last December, the dog bit a pedestrian, and when the woman pledged in writing that she would keep her dog on her property, register the dog and vaccinate it. Nevertheless, the woman did not follow through with her pledge, and the dog attacked another pedestrian in August, and the victim reported the incident to the police. The dog has reportedly bitten a total of eight people.
