Sea turtle eggs poached

About one hundred sea turtle eggs were found stolen from Odo Beach near Himeyuri Park in Itoman City, early Wednesday, Sep. 5. Seizing eggs of sea turtles is prohibited under a the Prefectural ordinance.

A group working to observe and preserve sea turtles around the area had confirmed that the eggs were laid on the previous night. The next morning a member of the group found most of them missing except three broken ones. The group members said that they were highly disappointed over the incident. Officials at the Okinawa Prefectural Office said that together with the Maritime Safety Agency and the police, they are considering countermeasures to prevent such incident in the future and apprehend the culprit(s).
