Pastele Brazil

Date Posted: 2001-09-07

Many students from the Okinawa City school district flood into this eatery as soon as the school ends for the day. Serving many of its original Brazilian snacks, this place has become a favorite to students and locals alike. However, surrounded by Chatan High School, Yamauchi Junior High School, and Kyuyou High School, 85% of their customers are students from those schools. The reason for its success is quite easy to determine. This establishment has what every student wants: tasty, low-priced food. All items are made from scratch by owners Jose and Angelica Yakabi, and almost everything served costs 100 or less. Churro, a Brazilian dessert with vanilla and chocolate cream, is a local favorite, and many of Pastele Brazil's snacks are available at the Hamby Night Market on Saturdays and Sundays.

Driving to Pastele Brazil is quite simple. From Kadena Gate 5, go straight until you reach the second traffic light. You'll see the Kyuyou High School in front of you. Make a right and go straight again. You'll then see a yellow and green building next to a Police box on your right. That's Pastele Brazil. For a good affordable Brazilian snack, drop by anytime between 2 p.m. and 8 p.m. on Tuesday through Friday.
