Okinawa gains seat in constituency reform

Date Posted: 2001-09-07

The Constituency Reform Council of the House of Representatives, the Lower House of Japan announced Saturday that it would reconsider the number of constituencies in twelve prefectures including Okinawa.

The council also decided not to accept constituencies that have a population exceeding 423,000 per one seat in the House. The council also said that they are considering a lower limit for the number of voters in a constituency. The new rules mean that Okinawa will gain one more seat in the House of Representatives.
