Onna Village sets up beach rules

Date Posted: 2002-03-24

Onna Village Assembly decided at its regular business meeting to enact an ordinance levying up to 50,000 fine on anyone found misusing publicly owned beaches in the area. The ordinance defines misuse as taking sand from the beach, wandering dangerously close to the ocean during a typhoon or engaging in an unruly behavior. People having a party on the beach would have to obtain permission. The new rules are scheduled to go into effect from July 1, the same day as the control of the prefecture owned beaches in Onna Village area will switch to the village.
