Record stretch of hot days to continue

Date Posted: 2001-09-07

According to the Okinawa Meteorological Bureau, the average temperature in August in Okinawa was the second hottest ever recorded. The number of consecutive days with a maximum temperature over thirty degrees centigrade was 77 until August 31 in Naha, which is a new record.

The bureau suspects that the rather strong stationary high pressure in the western side of the Pacific since the end of June covered Okinawa region, and resulted in this hot summer. They predict temperatures will stay higher than average through September.
