Dining in Style at Laguna Garden Hotel’s Paseo Garden Buffet

After eating too many plates of wasabi rice (seafood sushi minus the seafood), I have finally seen the light. My daughter loves sushi, particularly tako (octopus sushi), ikura (salmon roe sushi), and ebi (shrimp sushi). However, she only likes the seafood topping and not the rice ball with the wasabi (green horseradish) on it. So what do I do when my daughter, also known as “Gourmet Girl with the expensive eating habits” throws the rice balls aside? Like any good mother would do, I eat it. Yes, I am a connoisseur of what I call “wasabi rice”. If you’re wondering why I eat it, it is because of all the starving people throughout the world. Yes, I want to help alleviate world hunger so I eat my daughter’s ABC food (Already Been Chewed food). At sushi restaurants, I have tried to convince Gourmet Girl that the other less expensive types of sushi are just as tasty, but she remains a staunch adherent to tako, ikura, and ebi. By the way, this 3-year old girl is fully capable of eating 2500 yen worth of sushi, just the seafood topping of course. As a result, we have a found a more affordable place to eat sushi. When we want to eat sushi, and lots of it, we go over to Laguna Garden Hotel’s Paseo Garden Lunch Buffet.

The Paseo Garden Lunch Buffet is all-you-can-eat and it is a great deal. It’s 1500 yen per adult and only 750 yen for ages three through twelve. The Buffet is available seven days a week from 11:30 to 2:30 p.m. Sunday’s are usually very busy and it’s better to go during the week or even on Saturday if you don’t like crowds. If you do want to go on a Sunday, make sure to call ahead and make a reservation to ensure that you get a table. The phone number is 897-2121.

At the Paseo Garden Buffet, there are a good variety of delicious Japanese, Asian, and Western foods. Though the menu changes weekly, the Buffet regularly features a sushi bar, curry, steamed rice, miso-shiru, a small salad and fresh fruit bar, a beef entrée, and other seafood, chicken, beef or pork, and vegetable dishes. The dessert bar has cookies, cakes, and other pastries. There is definitely something for everyone at the Paseo Garden Lunch Buffet. Remember, don’t be shy and try a sample of everything. Whenever, I eat at the Buffet, I just pile all the empty plates next to my 6 foot tall husband and everyone assumes he is eating up all the food in the restaurant. By the way, orange juice, coffee, and tea also comes with the meal.

Laguna Garden Hotel is located in Ginowan city. The easiest way to get there from Okinawa City is to take Highway 58 heading towards Naha. While driving on Highway 58, make a right at the BMW dealership across the street from MCAS Futenma. Follow that road until it forms a “T” and turn right. Then turn left into the Hotel parking lot. Also, Laguna Garden Hotel is an ANA Hotel and the only Romanized name visible from the road is ANA Hotel. Don’t let that confuse you; just park in the Hotel parking lot. Once you start walking towards the Hotel, you will see the name, Laguna Garden Hotel on the building. Inside the Hotel, there are cute gift shops on the third floor and the Paseo Garden Lunch Buffet restaurant is on the bottom floor facing the outdoor pool. The décor both inside and outside of the Hotel is reminiscent of Hawaii. The greenery inside the lobby and the outdoor pool provides a tropical vacation ambiance. It’s definitely a pleasure to eat at a restaurant with such an attractive and relaxed setting. So if you want to eat a variety of delicious Japanese, Asian, and Western foods for one set price, make sure you try the food at the Paseo Garden Lunch Buffet at the Laguna Garden Hotel.
