Tony Roma Specialises in Spareribs, Steaks and Big Portions

Date Posted: 2000-12-08

A new branch of Tony Roma, the restaurant chain with branches in the USA and mainland Japan, will open on December 8 in Mihama. The new restaurant site is next to the 7 Plex Movie Theater in the American Village in Mihama, Chatan. It replaces the old Tony Roma in Urasoe city, near Camp Kinser, which closed last month.

The new location is to take advantage of one of Okinawa’s trendiest shopping areas and to tempt Mihama window shoppers, browsers and movie goers in to sample its robust, unpretentious fare.

Tony Roma is most famous for its spareribs, but its standards are also dishes such as BBQ chicken, seafood, steaks and salads.

One of the house specials at this restaurant is their fried onion rings. Tony Roma also claims its French fries are different to those in any other restaurant and wants customers to come in and verify the assertion.

Another of the restaurant’s selling points and the one which has allowed it to compete successfully on the mainland, is the size of its portions. Amounts served in Japanese restaurants are modest by comparison.

Lunch is served from 11:00 am to 2 p.m. and there is no buffet, but rather a variety of lunch sets to choose from. The restaurant stays open until 11:00 pm. There is a selection of wines at ¥380 a glass and bottles cost from ¥2200. There are also champagnes and cocktails.

Directions: Going south from Kadena towards Naha, take a left at Camp Lester Hospital gates and the American Village is straight ahead a few hundred yards. Tel. 982-7800.
